We love that the city we live in is so environmentally conscientious, they even have an incredible 40 year Sustainability charter, which entails the city’s plan to become an inclusive, thriving green city. This charter guides all City decisions and outlines what they want for the community as a whole.
To put some awareness on being a greener community, City of Surrey will be hosting their ninth annual Earth Day celebration ‘Party for the Planet’ at Civic Plaza on Saturday, April 13 from 10am to 6pm. The event will have some incredible activities, workshops, marketplace, an acoustic concert, local vendors and of course delicious food trucks.
A major highlight of this incredible event has to be the ADVENTURE ZONE....
Some activities to expect:
- A fun 200' zip
- Enviro Bungee
- Rock Climbing wall
- Road Hockey
There will also be a new feature to Part for the Planet.... LIVE GREENS WORLD will be situated right in Civic Plaza, featuring environmental workshops, sustainable market place and the best part a meet and greet with Big bird and Elmo.
Some workshops that you can look forward to....
You can expect to see 99 nursery and florists (with an array of plants/floral arrangements for sale as well as doing a workshop on how to take care of your garden. A Tupperware (educating attendants of the sustainability of their products and reducing your carbon footprint) and Sahaja Yoga Meditation just name a few of the amazing workshops you can attend.
The Sustainable marketplace will be another great area to explore....
This area will have the honey bee centre booth (a great booth to learn about bees and honey), Metro Vancouver Clothing Waste reduction booth (to help residents reduce their clothing waste, clothing repair demonstration), Surrey Urban Farmers Market (vendors of local food and artisan), the twisted lemon (an old fashion apothecary specializing in aroma therapy and herbal body care).... These are just to name a few of the incredible booths you will definitely want to check out.
There will also be an incredible section for the little budding artists. Drop by the Surrey Art Gallery Pop Up booth, where you can create your own art monster sun catchers and a fun puppeteer. A smoothie stop to quench your thirst and sample the official drink of Party for the Planet and the coolest part the smoothie blender is powered by a bike. Lastly check out Toddler town, a fun safe place for the kiddos to explore.
We cannot leave out some of the incredible performers that will be on the TD main stage, such as singer Colin Bullock, indie pop duo Harlequin Gold, and awesome children’s performer Bobs & Lolo, I mean most kiddos I know are obsessed with them. Or you can check out the DJ booth in the adventure zone or as mentioned above the live Acoustic performances in Live Green World area.
